Eddie Guerrero Honored By El Paso City Council

The El Paso City Council has officially proclaimed November 18 as Eddie Guerrero Day.

El Paso City Representative Deanna M. Rocha hyped up the ceremony earlier this month, and as announced, the proclamation took place during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 18. Eddie Guerrero’s family members, including his sisters, cousins, and two of his daughters, attended the ceremony.

Eddie Guerrero’s daughter, Sherilyn Guerrero, accepted the proclamation and spoke before the council members.

“Fortunately, I really do not think I can say the words, ‘If my dad is here,’ because I’m looking at this crowd and he truly is! El Paso is a catalyst in keeping my father’s name alive, and I, along with my family, have admired witnessing the love and passion the city holds for him and the Guerreros in general.”

Speaking further, she promised to carry Eddie Guerrero’s legacy, as she recently started her pro wrestling training.

“Now, as I start my wrestling journey as a third-generation Guerrero, not only do I plan to carry on the wrestling legacy, but I vow to be the next Guerrero that implements and reflects the heart and person that my dad was in the ring and outside of the ring.

“November 13th (2005), I lost a father, but we all lost somebody we looked up to. Being here today, I think we can say Eddie Guerrero is more than alive, and he still lives on. And I hope that when you all think of Eddie Guerrero, you know, and you think of how much he loved El Paso. Thank you, and Viva La Raza!”

Many of Eddie Guerrero’s fans attended the ceremony wearing luchador masks and lined up the street with lowriders to pay their respect to the legendary Hall of Famer.
