AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming Results:
This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with the tournament finals to crown the first-ever AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions.
AEW Women’s World Tag Team Titles: Babes of Wrath vs. The Timeless Love Bombs
- The finish of the match saw Willow Nightingale hit Mina Shirakawa with a Babe with the Powerbomb to score the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: And NEW AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions, Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, the Babes of Wrath!
After the match, Renee Paquette interviews the new champions in the ring, who emotionally put each other over. The crowd loves this. Storm and Shirakawa shake the champions’ hands and give them a hug in a very heartfelt moment.
Grade: B+
Very fun match! I’m glad this match kicked off the show to make sure everyone knew how important this match was to the AEW Women’s Division. Harley Cameron has worked so hard over the last couple of years, so I’m really happy to see her get this moment. Willow Nightingale will absolutely be AEW’s first women’s triple crown winner. For this, I have no doubt!
The “real” Samoa Joe
The Opps are backstage. Samoa Joe says Eddie Kingston wants the real Samoa Joe, but what he doesn’t understand is that the real Joe has been standing in front of him the entire time. Joe says he doesn’t care about men like Eddie because they are just standing in his way the whole time. Joe says he will beat Kingston down tonight and show him the reality of what this industry is.
Jon Moxley feels alive
The Death Riders, minus PAC and Claudio Castagnoli, are in a stairwell. Jon Moxley says he’s never felt more alive and talks about people doubting him in this tournament. Mox says the circumstances aren’t ideal, and his back against the wall in the Continental Classic, but if there’s one grain of sand left in the hourglass, he can still score and dares people to count him out. Moxley says he continues trying for the Death Riders and calls them the hardest-working group in professional wrestling.
Daniel Garcia says every day when they wake up, they choose to win. Garcia says if you want something, you have to go take it, and that’s what the Death Riders do every single time.
Continental Classic Gold League: Kazuchika Okada vs. Jungle Jack Perry
- The finish of the match saw Kazuchika Okada hit Jungle Jack Perry with the Rainmaker to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Kazuchika Okada
Isn’t your family big enough, Don?
After the match, the Don Callis Family hits the ring, and Callis offers Jack Perry a spot in the family. Callis says if he joins tonight, he’ll give him a signing bonus of the Young Bucks’ money that they won at Full Gear. Callis says he wants an answer and reminds him that there are seven of them and one of him.
Jack Perry says he has Don’s answer, and it looks like, for the second time tonight, he’s going to bite off a bit more than he can chew. Perry tries to attack the family and gets jumped. Luchasaurus comes out to ringside to distract the Don Callis Family as the Young Bucks come through the crowd with steel chairs and attack the faction. Matt and Nick hit Okada with a BTE Trigger. Callis ends up getting trapped and gives up the bag of money. Takeshita takes the bullet for Callis and eats a superkick for his troubles.
Grade: B+
The match was good. It was basically Jack Perry fighting from underneath for most of the match. Unfortunately, I never felt at any point that Okada was in danger of losing this. I know the Continental Classic has its fair share of upsets, but I just didn’t see it taking place here.
The celebration continues…
Backstage, we see the Conglomeration celebrating Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron’s big win earlier tonight. Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa show up and join in on the celebration.
We get a video package for Mercedes Moné, recapping her recent loss of the ROH Women’s World Television Championship and failing to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship for a second time.
Eddie Kingston is ready
Renee Paquette is backstage with Eddie Kingston. Kingston says he’s nervous and reminds us that tonight is the anniversary of Terry Funk winning the World Championship. Kingston says he’s trying to keep his emotions in check, but tells Joe that he has the fight of his life coming tonight, and he won’t be going down easily.
Mark Briscoe has something to say
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and brings out TNT Champion Mark Briscoe. Briscoe says a lot of people said he could never be champion, and he knows the haters and doubters are still out there, but they can kiss his ass.
Briscoe says it’s one thing to become a champion, but it’s another thing to become a champion. Mark says he’ll be defending this title this weekend against Daniel Garcia on Collision at Cardiff, Wales. He’s interrupted by Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and Marina Shafir. Yuta says Briscoe can’t be the face of TNT with so few teeth. Yuta makes fun of Briscoe’s Chicken nickname.
Daniel Garcia says he can say hurtful things about Briscoe, too, but he won’t because he feels bad for him. Garcia says everything about him is just kind of sad. Garcia says on Saturday, he’ll become a two-time TNT Champion, and Briscoe will need to figure out how to provide for his family with a broken leg. Briscoe says Garcia has an ass whooping coming on Collision, but right now they are on TBS, and it would be wrong to deprive the fans of one tonight, and tells him if he’s feeling froggy to make his move.
Shafir and Yuta end up holding Garcia back and get him out of the ring as Briscoe shows off his custom TNT Championship.
Going back to the well rarely works
Backstage, the Triangle of Madness are attacking random women again, just like they did on Collision. However, this time, Kris Statlander shows up and runs them off with a steel chair.
Tornado Tag Match: Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland vs. The Opps
- The finish of the match saw Swerve Strickland hit Katsuyori Shibata with the House Call to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page
Grade: A-
Loved this. Got some craziness before the match with the brawl around the arena, and the match itself delivered as well. I really enjoy it when Hangman and Swerve work together. I’m not sure how much longer it will last, but I’m enjoying it while it’s here.
Don Callis lays out a challenge to the Young Bucks
Don Callis is backstage and says he could take the Young Bucks to court over the money they stole tonight, but has a better idea. Callis challenges the Young Bucks to get a partner and face the Don Callis Family with the money on the line in Manchester next week on Dynamite.
Continental Classic Gold League: Kyle Fletcher vs. Speedball Mike Bailey
- The finish of the match saw Speedball Mike Bailey catch Kyle Fletcher in a trapping pinfall rollup to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Speedball Mike Bailey
Grade: A+
I freaking LOVED that match! This was honestly everything I could have hoped for and more. I was really hoping Bailey would pick up this win, and I couldn’t be happier to see him get that hard-earned victory over Fletcher. You can’t really get any better than this! If you didn’t see this match live, I implore you to go out of your way to check this one out.
What is next for Hangman Page?
Renee Paquette is backstage with Hangman Page. Hangman says, regardless of who leaves tonight as AEW World Champion, he’s coming for them at Worlds End to get back his title.
The Elite… the the Elite!
The Young Bucks are backstage and agree to the match with the Don Callis Family next week, but they need a third man. They ask Luchasaurus, but he shakes his head no and points to Kenny Omega’s locker room.
The Bucks knock on the door and ask Omega. Kenny says it’s a lot of money, but this is about taking down the Don Callis Family, and he’ll happily do it for free. The match is on!
AEW World Championship: Samoa Joe (c) (w/ HOOK) vs. Eddie Kingston
- The finish of the match saw Samoa Joe lock Eddie Kingston in the coquina clutch to win the match via submission.
Winner: And still AEW World Champion, Samoa Joe
Grade: A-
Samoa Joe leaves Eddie Kingston alone in the ring as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
AEW Dynamite Review:
It was a damn good episode of Dynamite tonight from start to finish. AEW typically knows how big these Winter is Coming events are for them, and they rarely disappoint. I felt tonight’s show delivered on multiple levels.
Speedball and Fletcher definitely had a match of the year candidate tonight, and we saw the first-ever AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions crowned. Then you had the main event that ended with a definitive winner as Joe retained his title over Kingston in a damn good match. I really enjoyed tonight’s show. Great stuff!
