Gunther needed a police escort after defeating John Cena in his retirement match.
Gunther picked up the biggest win of his WWE career so far at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he made 17-time WWE Champion John Cena tap out to his sleeper hold. He became the first wrestler in over two decades and the fourth overall to make the GOAT submit.
Following the match, the former two-time World Heavyweight Champion took to Instagram to post a video showing the before, during, and aftermath of his showdown with John Cena. It also showed Gunther being escorted from the Capital One Arena by the police.
WWE fans were seen with ‘If Cena taps, we riot‘ signs before John Cena’s retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. They stayed true to their words and tried to follow him with loud boos and chants as he exited the arena. The Ring General had to be escorted to his vehicle to ensure his safety.
With bearing such nuclear heat, it will be interesting to hear what Gunther has to say on the upcoming episode of WWE RAW.
John Cena Sr. Questions His Son Losing His Final WWE Match By Tapping Out To Gunther
Speaking with Bill Apter, John Cena Sr expressed his disappointment over his son tapping out to Gunther in his final match. While he understood Cena having to lose, he expected him to pass out rather than submit.
“I think Gunther and Cena put on a tremendous show. I think the match was outstanding… There were several areas there where I was amazed that both men were still on their feet. That’s how good that match was.
“Did I expect a tap out? I’ll be real honest with you, Bill. I would have expected a pass out and still Gunther be the winner… it’s almost like the Brock Lesnar beating.
“That’s what it turned out to be in the long run. They had as much time as they needed. Again, I think they both did a fabulous, fabulous job. Gunther did exactly what he was supposed to do. You got to give that man credit. He was supposed to be the villain, and he played it to the end.” [H/T: 411mania]
