WWE Star’s Commitment To Wrestling Was Inspired By Surprising WCW Name

A top WWE star credits a surprising WCW name for inspiring her lifelong commitment to wrestling.

Former WWE Women’s Champion Bayley was a recent guest on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story podcast. During the conversation, she recounted the first time she attended a live wrestling event. She remembers literally bumping into former WCW Tag Team Champion Buff Bagwell when they tried to go through the doors.

Bayley noted that seeing Buff Bagwell and experiencing the live wrestling atmosphere that day inspired her to become a pro wrestler.

“The first time I saw wrestling live. My dad took me and my brother to an independent show, and Buff Bagwell was on the show,” the WWE star began. “So I was like, ‘Oh! This guy’s on TV.’ As we’re walking, looking at our ticket, my dad’s like, ‘Okay, I think we go in here,’ and Buff Bagwell, we literally run into him, and he’s all, you know, shirt off and everything. Just all done up, and we just ran right into him as we’re trying to go through the doors.

“It’s kind of just like struck me right in the moment. I’m like, I’m here, you know. They couldn’t shout, like, it couldn’t shout any louder, being like, ‘You’re at a wrestling show.’ That was our first impression of, at least for me, seeing wrestling live with my brother,” the WWE star said.

Stephanie McMahon chimed in, saying, “So, seeing a pretty good-looking, ripped up, oiled up dude, it was a positive sign for you.'” Bayley then replied, “Yeah. I was like, ‘Dad, I’m gonna do this forever!’ At 12 years old.”
