Hangman Page says he tries to keep his relationship with Marty Scurll private. However, he still made it clear that he doesn’t condone his friend’s past behavior.
Current AEW World Trios Champion and former AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page was involved in some controversy due to his link to Marty Scurll, a former member of The Elite. Scurll was close with Bullet Club members such as Page and The Young Bucks during their tenure in Ring of Honor.
After the creation of All Elite Wrestling, it seemed like Scurll would follow The Elite to the new company. However, that didn’t happen. Scurll’s pro wrestling career was derailed after he was accused of having a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old girl in the U.K. in 2015. Scurll admitted to his role in the encounter. He claimed that while both he and the girl were intoxicated, he believed it was consensual, due to the age of consent being 16 in the country.
Scurll was investigated and dismissed from his role as head booker of Ring of Honor and he has essentially stayed out of the public eye. He has wrestled on smaller shows since then, but Scurll was thrust back into the spotlight after he posted the photo with Page.
Hangman Page doesn’t endorse Marty Scurll’s actions
Page told The Takedown on SI’s Jon Alba that he does not condone what Scurll did at all. He called Scurll’s actions “abhorrent” and “disgraceful,” noting that there’s no excuse for it. Page never intended for the photo to go public. He’s also not interested in helping Scurll rehab his public image.
“I don’t want that photo to seem like some kind of endorsement, or, I have any interest whatsoever in whitewashing what he did, or any interest or intention of rehabilitating his public image,” he said. “None of that is something that I’ve ever been interested in doing. Not now, not ever,” Hangman Page said. “And I think that the consequences of his actions that he’s had mostly from the public, aside from, like, harassment, I think they’ve been warranted. So I kind of want to make that clear.”

Page also said that he chose to remain in contact with Scurll because he faced plenty of consequences in the aftermath of the allegations. When asked why he chose to remain friends with Scurll despite the nature of the allegations and the public reaction to them, Page said it was rooted in the kindness that Scurll showed him over the years.
“I guess who I am is, when people treat me with kindness, I try to return it,” Page said. “I have never really wanted to get into that. And that’s more or less why I have a private relationship with him. Not out of a sense of self-preservation or shame, or something like that. But more or less, I just would never want that to be misconstrued as like an endorsement or an effort to rehabilitate someone’s public image, something like that. I guess I’ve just always thought that he’s still a human being, and that relationships are complicated. But they’re still relationships, and he’s still a human being.”
