Linda McMahon says a decades-long friendship with Donald Trump helped open the door to her serving as a member of his cabinet.
McMahon was recently featured in an interview with Going Ringside‘s Scott Johnson. During the interview, which took place at a past rally in Florida, McMahon explained how her relationship with Donald Trump first began.
“It was almost 30 years ago now. We met and he was a big fan of WWE,” Linda McMahon explained. “He came in, he was in some of our storylines, some of the highest-rated storylines. We became friends, and we’ve friends ever since. I was honored; it was the honor of a lifetime to serve in his Cabinet.”
Linda McMahon says Donald Trump pitched a “novel idea” to her
Johnson asked how Trump offered the position to McMahon in the first place. McMahon said he called from Trump Tower after he became the President-elect and pitched a “novel idea” about her running the Small Business Administration.
“[Trump told me] ‘I actually want someone who’s run a small business, knows what it’s like for business people who are starting up, what it is that impacts them positively and negatively. He said ‘I’d like you to consider doing it.’”
McMahon was asked if politics is like pro wrestling at all. She implied there’s a connection, joking that there’s clearly no ring.
Linda McMahon is the current United States Secretary of Education, a role she has held since 2025. McMahon previously served as the head of the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019.
