The March 13 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown featured a chaotic women’s tag team championship match — and by the end of the night, the division had a clear new team targeting the gold.
What began as a straightforward title defense quickly turned into a three-team confrontation that reshaped the championship picture.
By the time the dust settled, the champions remained standing — but the next challengers had already stepped forward.
Bella Twins Emerge As Next Contenders for WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles
The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship was on the line as champions Nia Jax and Lash Legend, known as The Irresistible Forces, defended their titles against Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair.
Before the match began, The Bella Twins — Nikki and Brie Bella — returned to SmackDown and addressed the crowd. The Hall of Fame duo declared that regardless of who won the title match, they considered themselves next in line for the championships.
The Bellas then remained at ringside to watch the match unfold.
The contest itself saw momentum swing between both teams. Bliss and Flair mounted several strong sequences, including a moonsault attempt from Flair and a Tornado DDT from Bliss. Meanwhile, Jax and Legend used their power advantage to control key stretches of the match.
However, the action spilled outside the ring late in the bout. During the chaos, Flair accidentally struck Nikki Bella with a boot. Moments later, Brie Bella entered the ring and attacked Jax.
The interference caused the match to end by disqualification, allowing Jax and Legend to retain their titles.
After the bell, the situation escalated into a three-team brawl. The champions ultimately stood tall, delivering a combination spinebuster and diving leg drop to Nikki Bella.
Later backstage, Bliss and Flair confronted the Bellas and blamed them for costing them the match. Nikki and Brie responded by insisting they were provoked and reiterated their claim that they are next in line for the titles.
With the road to WrestleMania 42 heating up, the women’s tag team division now has a clear new target on the champions — and it looks like the Bellas are ready to ring in another title chase.
