Gunther Planned For Major Role at WWE WrestleMania 42 — Report

WWE reportedly has a major role for Gunther at WrestleMania 42.

Former two-time World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has been on a roll since establishing himself as WWE’s career killer. After retiring legends like Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles one after the other, fans expected the company to place the Ring General in a major storyline heading into WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas next month.

While Gunther was expected to face Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42 after he recently unmasked Dragon Lee, the Hall of Famer’s rib injury put that into question. Now, Wrestlevotes Radio (via Fightful Select) is reporting that sources within WWE claim they still expect Gunther to have a substantial role in the PLE, despite his recent absence. One source noted that having the former World Heavyweight Champion miss the PLE wouldn’t benefit anyone involved.

Wrestlevotes Radio had recently reported that WWE is considering Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio, and Oba Femi to face Gunther at WrestleMania 42. However, with Lesnar and Femi set to face each other, Mysterio is the only remaining original option. Bodyslam+ also reported that the Ring General’s status for the PLE would be uncertain if Mysterio doesn’t get cleared on time.

Gunther last appeared on WWE television on the March 2 episode of RAW, where he defeated Dragon Lee. It will be interesting to see what the promotion has in store for the Ring General at WrestleMania 42 if Rey Mysterio doesn’t get cleared for the event.
