Brody King Reacts to Unexpected Anti-ICE Chants and Their Impact

Brody King spoke about the loud “Fu*k ICE” chants that happened during his match on AEW Dynamite.

The moment took place on the 4th February 4 edition of AEW Dynamite in Las Vegas, where King faced MJF. As soon as the match started, fans began chanting loudly, which clearly caught MJF off guard. The moment also got mainstream news coverage for AEW.

In an interview with Denise Salcedo, King shared his thoughts on the moment. He said he doesn’t see it as political. He said, “It has been great. And I feel like — you know, when I was younger, I always wanted somebody that felt like me on TV or wherever to express the way that they felt, so I can have someone to champion for me.”

“And if I can be that for other people that are being marginalized, then I want to be that for them. You know, everyone tries to bring up the political thing. In my opinion, it’s just what’s right and what’s wrong. And there’s a lot of wrong happening in the world, and if I can speak out against it then I will.”

He explained that he had made a similar statement before by wearing an “Abolish ICE” shirt last year. “Well it’s funny, because I wore the Abolish ICE shirt at Arena Mexico almost a year go now; I think it was June of last year. And the ‘F**k ICE’ chants happened this year, right before Australia. So it’s like, it got a lot of attention for the shirt.”

“And then it out of nowhere kind of picked up more attention — I mean, obviously, the state of things gets more boiled over. People are frustrated, and that’s going to come out in certain ways. And you know, I can’t think of a more positive way for it to come out than them chanting it at a wrestling show.”

King also admitted that the moment surprised him, but it gave him a lot of energy before the match. “It took me off guard, but it also like — I felt like I could run through a wall at that moment. [laughs] And I feel like the way that MJF looked at that camera, he knew I was going to run through a wall as well.” [H/T: 411mania]
