Ahead of AEW Revolution, Tony Khan spoke about several topics during a media call. One of the subjects discussed was the fan chants that often pop up during the segments and matches involving Brody King.
King has been open about his opinions regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, called ICE. The topic gained attention when he appeared wearing a shirt that read “Abolish ICE.” After that, crowds began chanting “F**k ICE” whenever he appeared.
Tony Khan Says Brody King’s Views Come “From The Heart”
During the media call for AEW Revolution, Khan commented on those chants and the company’s perspective of it.
Tony Khan described Brody King as one of AEW’s top performers and praised his achievements. He admitted that AEW allows its wrestlers to be themselves, even if their personal opinions become part of their public image.
Khan also spoke about King’s career and the impact he has had in different promotions. He explained that AEW mainly focuses on King’s ability inside the ring, even though his personal views sometimes spark political conversations.
“He is a fantastic wrestler and also, as I’ve said before, he has strong personal views. The views that Brody expresses, that’s coming from him from the heart, and one of the things about AEW is you’ll hear people be and express their really authentic self and it comes across in the wrestling,” Khan said.
Khan added that AEW encourages wrestlers to show their genuine personalities instead of forcing them into strict roles. He also mentioned that King receives strong support from fans globally.
“Brody has absolutely gotten a lot of attention and he’s also a great wrestler, so, I think I’ve always put the focus on the sport because it’s a wrestling league and I think the individual views of the wrestlers, it’s good for people to be able to express them but also it’s great that Brody has great support from the fans all over the world everywhere we’ve gone, whether it’s the U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.K., Australia. So many places we’ve taken AEW and there’s great support for Brody everywhere we’ve been, and I’m sure there will continue to be because he’s a fantastic wrestler,” Khan added.
Apart from King and Khan, MJF has also praised the promotion earlier for letting the wrestlers be themselves. He also stood his ground when the mainstream media reacted to the crowd’s chants.
