Becky Lynch Reveals She Fought WWE Plans Before Past WrestleMania Match

There have been many instances where wrestlers don’t exactly align with WWE’s creative direction for their storyline or their character. Something similar happened with Becky Lynch as she recently shared that she had a massive disagreement with WWE’s WrestleMania 38 plans.

Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to win the Raw Women’s Championship at the event. It was kind of a redemption for Belair after her 26-second loss to a returning Lynch at SummerSlam 2021.

However, at one time, WWE wanted it to be a triple threat match.

Becky Lynch says she pushed back against WWE Creative Plans

Speaking on Good One, Lynch talked about her rivalry with Belair. She mentioned that after their SummerSlam match, she wanted to give it back to Belair “in the biggest way possible” at WrestleMania 38.

“When I took that title from her, and I know how upset she was because she thought, like, ‘They don’t believe in me anymore. They think I’m doing a bad job and I get squashed in this way,’ but she was so gracious. She was, ‘I’m so happy.’ She could’ve been like, ‘This bitch is coming in, taking my spot. She’s been gone. I’ve been here putting in the hard work. Now I just have to roll over for her?’ I always wanted to pay it back to her in the biggest way possible. And the fact that we were able to get there, and we had to fight,” Lynch said.

She revealed that WWE once planned to turn their match into a triple threat, but she didn’t agree with that idea. She felt it would ruin the story they were building, and she was ready to fight for her opinion.

“At one point, they wanted to put somebody else into the match and make it a triple threat. I was like, ‘That’s not the story.’ That was going to be my hill that I died on. I was ready to really fight. Thankfully, they changed it. Because it needed to go back to Bianca. If it had gone to the triple threat, they would’ve kept it on me. The story needed for Bianca to win and take that victory. It just felt like a happy and perfect ending,” Lynch added.

In the end, WWE stuck with the one-on-one match, and it paid off. Belair fought through tough moments and finally won with her K.O.D.
