There’s reportedly internal hope in WWE that John Cena’s “history-making news” at Backlash is bigger than what’s rumored.
After hosting both nights of WrestleMania 42, John Cena will appear at WWE Backlash later tonight. He previously teased that he would show up at the event to “break some history-making news.” He then added more intrigue, saying his announcement would “shock the very foundation of WWE.”
John Cena had previously noted that his next chapter in WWE following retirement would be to play a significant role in the promotion’s new premium membership program, Club WWE. He also mentioned in an earlier tease that he’s planning something “epic” at Backlash regarding the program.
Reports noted that John Cena’s big announcement at Backlash is tied to the upcoming launch of Club WWE. However, Wrestlevotes reported on X/Twitter that there was internal hope backstage at last night’s SmackDown that the announcement could go beyond anything related to the premium membership program. One source had mentioned that if that’s the direction, the promotion is keeping a tight lid on it behind the scenes.
“Backstage at SmackDown last night, there was some internal hope that tonight’s “historic” announcement from John Cena goes beyond anything Club WWE related. That said, according to one source, if that’s the direction, it’s been kept very quiet behind the scenes.”
