Asuka has become the center of major speculation following WWE Backlash after rumors started spreading about her possible retirement or stepping away from wrestling.
At WWE Backlash, Asuka faced Iyo Sky in a singles match. Sky picked up the win, however, following the match, Asuka thanked the crowd and shared a hug with Sky. Several WWE stars also shared tributes online, which quickly fueled retirement rumors.
The speculation became so widespread that even Big E referenced it during the Backlash post-show discussion. Earlier, Dave Meltzer reported that he had been told Asuka is currently “semi-retired.” Now, another update has emerged regarding her status inside WWE.
Report says WWE talent do not believe Asuka has wrestled her final match
According to Fightful (via Fightful Select), Asuka’s current situation remains unclear even internally within WWE. The report states, “The situation appeared to be a mystery to the locker room, and to a number of people around the creative process, who weren’t sure if this was actually a “goodbye.”
Considering the uncertainty about her status, talent that spoke to Fightful does not believe Asuka has had her final match yet. The WWE veteran was also highly praised as being “always reliable no matter what was thrown her way.”
The report also provided an update on Asuka’s WWE contract situation that she signed a new long-term WWE deal in 2024. Most contracts signed during that period were reportedly five-year agreements.
The report additionally mentioned backstage frustration regarding the release of Kairi Sane. Several sources reportedly felt disappointed that there was no proper payoff to the Kabuki Warriors storyline. Despite this, it’s unclear if this came from Asuka herself.
For now, Asuka’s WWE future remains uncertain amid the ongoing speculation surrounding her status.
