Donald Trump’s Link To WWE Takes Focus In ‘Wrestling With Trump’ Documentary

A new documentary titled Wrestling With Trump explores the surprising link between Donald Trump’s political rise and his history with WWE.

Hosted by satirist Munya Chawawa, the documentary officially aired on Channel 4 on May 12, 2026. It explores the theory that US President Donald Trump’s campaign and style of governance are deeply rooted in the “playbook” of professional wrestling, specifically his long-standing relationship with WWE.

The documentary highlights three concepts from WWE that Donald Trump has seemingly integrated into his political persona: hyperbole, smack talk, and kayfabe.

The documentary connects Donald Trump’s hyperbole-style rhetoric that everything he does is the “biggest” or “best” in history to WWE’s marketing and storytelling.

Munya Chawawa then connected Trump’s use of derogatory nicknames such as “Crooked Hillary” and “Sleepy Joe” to “smack talk” in WWE promos. He claims Trump positions himself as a babyface and uses these insults to enrage the opposition, the heels, and get the crowd on his side.

The documentary notes that Donald Trump uses wrestling’s kayfabe concept in his political strategies. It claims that Trump’s supporters know some of his ideas are exaggerated, yet they still choose to believe them. Chawawa also interviewed Trump’s campaign adviser, Sam Nunberg, who confirmed that they used the WWE model for the campaign. Nunberg said they leaned into its combative storylines to dominate the 24-hour news cycle.

Munya Chawawa interviewed several prominent names from pro wrestling for the feature. The speakers include WWE Hall of Famer Brutus Beefcake and former Superstar Muhammad Hassan. Three independent wrestlers are also featured, including one named Progressive Liberal, and some MAGA Supporters at a “Magathering” at a bar for his Donald Trump documentary.
