WWE legend The Boogeyman recently shared an interesting story involving Donald Trump from WrestleMania 23. According to him, part of their backstage segment was changed because Trump did not want his character to appear frightened on television.
Back in 2007, Donald Trump was involved in WWE’s famous “Battle of the Billionaires” storyline with Vince McMahon ahead of WrestleMania 23. During that time, The Boogeyman appeared in a backstage segment featuring Trump and Miss America.
Speaking on Going Ringside, The Boogeyman looked back on the moment and explained that the original version of the segment was different from what fans eventually saw on television. He said, “Well, he and Vince are friends, as you know. But I got to tell you, in that segment, when I come up from behind the couch, and he had also Miss America there as well. And she ran off.”
WWE legend The Boogeyman recalls Donald Trump segment that was changed
“But then Donald, Mr. Trump, President Trump as he is, he didn’t want to be frightened. So, he’s talking about how this place is a circus. True enough, it is. But he didn’t want to sell my character.”
The Boogeyman then explained how the segment originally continued. “He didn’t want to sell my character. So, he said, ‘Go make me a sandwich.’ And he, you know, and you see me walk off screen, but then I came back and I grabbed him by the collar and I said, ‘How about a worm sandwich?’ They cut that.”
When asked why the moment was removed, The Boogeyman revealed. “They cut it because he did not want to show fear.” He further explained why the segment was changed. “Well, no. He didn’t want to look scared of me. He didn’t want to show that he was frightened.”
“You know, but this is a true story. And I grabbed him and I came back because Vince wants this character to be the boogeyman. You know, and in all actuality, I got somewhat in trouble for that, or heat for it, because I allowed him to not show the show fairness, which almost kills the character. Do you understand? So, but anyway, that’s how it went. But I was very fortunate. I can say that I actually met the president before he was president.”
