New Update on Roman Reigns Vs. Cody Rhodes After WWE’s Recent Tease

WWE recently fueled speculation about another showdown between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes after the two champions crossed paths backstage at Clash in Italy.

However, a new report suggests fans shouldn’t expect that blockbuster match anytime soon.

The staredown immediately grabbed attention because of the history between the World Heavyweight Champion and the Undisputed WWE Champion.

With both men standing tall after successful title defenses in Turin on May 31, many viewed the moment as a potential sign of things to come.

WWE reportedly has no summer plans for Roman Reigns Vs. Cody Rhodes

According to WrestleVotes during a recent Q&A on Fightful Select, WWE currently has no plans for a Roman Reigns versus Cody Rhodes match this summer.

That update comes despite the tension that followed Clash in Italy. After retaining his championship, Reigns took a verbal shot at Rhodes, declaring, “QB1? F**K all that noise, it’s The Tribal Chief’s game.”

Rhodes fired back during the post-show, making it clear he wasn’t backing down. The Undisputed WWE Champion stated that if Reigns wanted another opportunity, he would gladly “add him to the list.”

While the exchange kept fans talking, it appears the company is focusing both stars elsewhere for now.

The OTC has remained occupied on Raw following victories over Jacob Fatu at Backlash 2026 and again in a Tribal Combat match at Clash in Italy. That result forced Fatu to align with Reigns and The Usos, keeping The Bloodline story firmly in the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Rhodes has unfinished business with Gunther. Their Clash in Italy title match ended in controversy after the referee failed to notice Gunther’s foot under the bottom rope during the deciding pinfall. As a result, Gunther is set to receive a rematch and will choose the stipulation.

For now, the backstage encounter between Rhodes and Reigns appears to have been more of a tease than a trigger. WWE may have planted a seed, but according to reports, that dream match isn’t scheduled to bloom during the summer. Fans will instead have to keep their eyes on separate roads as both champions continue their respective reigns.
