AEW has officially added a major stipulation match to the upcoming Forbidden Door event, and AEW World Champion MJF finds himself right in the middle of it.
The announcement came during the June 10 edition of AEW Dynamite after tensions between MJF and Mark Briscoe reached another boiling point.
The rivalry has intensified ever since MJF captured his third AEW World Championship. While Briscoe has repeatedly pushed for a title opportunity, the champion has consistently rejected the challenge, insisting that Briscoe doesn’t belong in the world title picture.
Mark Briscoe secures high-stakes Steel Cage match for AEW Forbidden Door against MJF
The latest chapter began after Briscoe defeated PAC in singles action on Dynamite. Following the victory, Briscoe grabbed a microphone and once again called out MJF, claiming he had discovered a direct path to an AEW World Championship match.
MJF eventually appeared through the crowd and quickly shut down the idea of granting Briscoe a title shot.
According to the champion, he is “the final word” in AEW and his answer remains “no.” MJF also declared that he is the “rising tide” of the company and argued that protecting the championship from wrestlers like Briscoe is part of his responsibility.
The segment then took an unexpected turn.
After MJF boasted that “money talks,” Jay Lethal and his associates Blake Christian and Lee Johnson attacked Briscoe. The numbers game initially worked, but the Conglomeration soon stormed the ring to even the odds. Tomohiro Ishii bulldozed through opponents while Orange Cassidy arrived in his trademark laid-back fashion to help restore order.
With momentum on his side, Briscoe revealed the news that left MJF visibly stunned. After speaking with AEW President Tony Khan, Briscoe announced that Forbidden Door will feature Team Briscoe against Team MJF in a 12-man steel cage match. The stakes are equally significant: if Briscoe’s team wins, he earns a guaranteed AEW World Championship opportunity.
As Andrade El Idolo made his entrance and stared down the champion, MJF appeared shell-shocked. For a man who claims to control everything, the walls may finally be closing in — literally.
