AEW star Will Ospreay recently found himself at the center of fan backlash following a comment he made about his wife. The remark came during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, shortly after Ospreay returned following his wedding to fellow wrestler Alex Windsor.
The comment quickly sparked discussion online. While many fans in attendance cheered the promo, others criticized the way Ospreay spoke about his wife.
During AEW Dynamite, Tony Schiavone congratulated Ospreay on his wedding. He also noted Ospreay came straight to television. However, Ospreay joked he should have been honeymooning instead. However, he said his wife wanted him to focus on the Owen Hart tournament.
He said, “I got a good wife, man. So here’s what I did to treat her, I took her upstairs, I smashed the life out of her, bruv. I said, ‘Babe, clean yourself up, I gotta go to Houston.'” While fans inside the arena seemed entertained, others online wasn’t impressed by the comment.
Will Ospreay Fires Back At Fan Criticizing AEW Dynamite Promo
One fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, criticized Ospreay’s words. The fan called the remarks gross and misogynistic. The fan wrote, “much like when MJF does it I’m sure Alex is absolutely fine with what he said however, also like when MJF does it, what a gross way to talk about the love of your life, straight up dehumanising and misogynistic language, yuck.”
The post eventually caught Ospreay’s attention online. He decided to respond with a brief message. Ospreay wrote, “Touch grass Katherine.”
The segment also featured a confrontation between Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay ahead of Forbidden Door. The winner of their tournament final will earn an AEW World Title shot at All In London.
