Will Ospreay had every reason to stay far away from a wrestling ring on the June 17 episode of AEW Dynamite. Fresh off his wedding to fellow AEW star Alex Windsor, Ospreay could have been enjoying a honeymoon.
Instead, he showed up in Texas with a major tournament match looming on the horizon.
During a live in-ring segment on Dynamite, Ospreay explained why his post-wedding plans were put on hold. He offered fans a glimpse into just how important the coming weeks are to him.
Will Ospreay prioritizes Owen Hart Tournament dream over honeymoon
Ospreay legally married Windsor on June 15 and had originally planned to head straight into honeymoon mode. However, according to Ospreay, his wife encouraged him to stay focused on his wrestling goals before taking time away.
Speaking with Tony Schiavone, Ospreay thanked fans for their messages. Then, he revealed that he was supposed to be on his honeymoon. He said his wife told him she understood how much the ongoing tournament meant to him and that they could always travel to Hawaii later.
The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion joked about the situation in typical Ospreay fashion, drawing laughs from the crowd before turning his attention to business.
That business quickly arrived in the form of Shane “Swerve” Strickland. What began as a conversation about respect and changing priorities soon became a heated exchange centered around their upcoming Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament clash.
For Ospreay, the stakes couldn’t be much higher. He described the tournament as a lifelong dream and compared reaching the final stages to chasing the winning goal at Wembley Stadium. With a guaranteed AEW World Championship opportunity at All In: London awaiting the tournament winner, Ospreay made it clear why his honeymoon could wait.
The confrontation eventually turned physical, with Ospreay and Strickland trading sharp words before tensions boiled over.
While Hawaii remains on hold for now, Ospreay’s focus is firmly on Forbidden Door on June 28. His collision with Strickland could shape the road to All In and the AEW World Championship picture.
