AEW President Tony Khan has publicly responded after Sareee apologized to fans for missing a major opportunity with the promotion.
The Japanese star was scheduled to compete in the 2026 Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament before an injury forced a late change of plans.
Although Sareee’s absence left many fans disappointed, Khan’s reaction suggested the door remains wide open for a future appearance.
Tony Khan sends upbeat message to Sareee following Owen Hart Tournament withdrawal
Sareee would have faced Skye Blue in the final first-round match of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster on June 10. However, ongoing neck issues prevented her from competing.
According to Sareee, her personal doctor had cleared her to wrestle, but AEW’s medical team did not. Speaking with Tokyo Sports, she revealed that Takumi Iroha was expected to step in as her replacement. Ultimately, Maya World filled the spot and defeated Skye Blue to advance in the tournament.
Following the announcement, Sareee addressed fans on X. She expressed regret over missing what would have been a significant moment in her AEW journey.
“I was very disappointed that I couldn’t participate in this great tournament and I apologize to the fans who were excited for it,” Sareee wrote. “I definitely want to return to AEW. Looking forward to that day.”
Khan quickly replied and made it clear that no apology was necessary.
“No apologies are necessary,” Khan wrote. “Heal up, good luck in your recovery, and you’re welcome to come back here anytime; the door to AEW is open for you!”
The exchange provided a silver lining after what had been a frustrating setback.
Sareee remained involved during the week despite being unable to compete. She accompanied Takumi Iroha to the ring at ROH Global Wars and later shared a backstage photo with Iroha and Khan.
For now, the focus remains on recovery. However, Khan’s public response leaves little doubt that AEW would welcome Sareee back whenever she’s ready to step through that door.
