As a veteran of the pro wrestling business, not much can fool WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash. One promo on the June 1, 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite did, though.
On a recent episode of Kliq This, Nash heaped praise for AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman. In doing so, Nash revealed that MJF’s infamous “fire promo” aimed at AEW CEO Tony Khan led him to believe that MJF might actually leave AEW to join WWE.
“I think he knows how much I appreciate him,” Nash said. “We’ve had conversations. I think he’s super talented. I remember that when did the one where he was telling Tony Khan, ‘F***ing fire me. Fire me, Tony. F***ing fire me.’ They cut his mic off. I just remember I was watching that. I was watching it live and I just thought, to the point where I’m like, ‘Man, he must want to go to New York.’ I went, ‘Oh f*** man, you got me.’ It’s just like, ‘Oh f*** man. You motherf***er, you got me (laughs).”
Before AEW turned his microphone off, MJF delivered an anger-laced rant about Khan, claiming that the AEW CEO belonged behind the guardrail, rather than running a pro wrestling company. MJF then memorably shouted for Khan to fire him rather than waiting for his contract to expire.
MJF ultimately stayed with AEW and later re-signed to a lucrative new deal. He is currently in his third reign as AEW World Champion, having dethroned Darby Allin at Double or Nothing.
