Cody Rhodes Moved To Tears Over WWE WrestleMania Moment with Dustin Rhodes

Cody Rhodes will never forget a special moment he shared with his brother, Dustin Rhodes, before what was arguably the biggest match of his career.

Rhodes finally finished his story at WrestleMania XL when he defeated Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. The victory capped off a years-long journey and created one of the most memorable moments in recent WWE history.

During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Rhodes reflected on WrestleMania 40 and revealed an emotional interaction he had with Dustin before heading out for the main event.

“There was just one thing that day, the day of WrestleMania 40, that I tear up every time I think about it,” Rhodes said. “It happened and no one knew it happened. My brother Dustin and I, I don’t want to say we have a complicated relationship, but families are complicated. We certainly love each other, but we wrestle in different places and I don’t always agree with what he does. I’m sure he doesn’t always agree with what I do. It’s brother stuff.

“But he came on my bus and asked me, ‘Are you ready?’ He got me, man. I just loved it. Dustin’s career and the way it went, that was a moment that felt so good. To be able to tell my big brother, who’s been through this business and been through it hard, fought hard, all that, to be able to tell him, ‘Yes. I’m ready. I’m ready for everyone here.’ That’s a good moment.”

Cody Rhodes Says The Moment Reminded Him Of Dusty Rhodes

When asked why the question carried so much emotion, Rhodes explained that it reminded him of his late father, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes.

“Because it wasn’t his to ask,” Rhodes said. “It was my dad’s to ask, and my dad couldn’t be there. We have a unique relationship where I often try to think I’m the older brother, but that’s arrogant on my behalf. I’m still the little brother.

“It was his to ask that night, ‘Are you ready?’ It reminded me so much of the old man. People say he’s there with you, and I understand what they mean, but Dustin was there and my mom was there. I actually said that at the press conference afterward. The ‘Mama Rhodes’ thing, I thought it was silly and ridiculous, but when I look back at it, there was no one who had more right to be part of that than she did. She lived it with Dusty, and she’s a pro wrestler in her own way. It was just a little moment between brothers.”

Rhodes will be in action this Saturday at Night of Champions, where he will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther and Sami Zayn in a Triple Threat Match. WrestleZone will provide live coverage of the PLE as it airs.
