Chad Gable’s Strange New WWE Gimmick Tied to Major Creative Plan — Report

Chad Gable’s revamped WWE presentation may be more than just a fresh entrance.

According to a new report, one noticeable part of his new gimmick has ties to a larger creative plan. This gesture could pay off well later this summer.

Since returning from injury and leaving the El Grande Americano persona behind, Gable has embraced a babyface role.

Along with a new entrance theme, fans have also noticed an overhead clapping routine that appears to be more than just another attempt to get the crowd involved.

Chad Gable’s new entrance may be building toward SummerSlam

According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, WWE’s decision to add the clapping routine is likely connected to Gable’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The report states that the gesture draws inspiration from the Minnesota Vikings’ famous “Skol Clap,” a fan tradition performed at U.S. Bank Stadium — the venue hosting SummerSlam 2026 on Aug. 1 and 2.

As per the source, Gable’s new entrance is “likely tied to a larger creative concept involving the city of Minnesota,” adding that WWE’s effort to connect him with the hometown audience “does not come as a surprise.”

The report also noted that WWE appears eager to create another memorable crowd participation moment. After the success of Jey Uso’s “Yeet” movement, the company is reportedly looking for its next fan-driven entrance tradition. As one host observed, the idea may not have clicked with everyone immediately. Nevertheless, it makes more sense once viewed through the lens of Minnesota sports culture.

The timing also fits Gable’s recent momentum. Following his return, he apologized to several luchadors. Moreover, he attempted to make amends with Alpha Academy, although Maxxine Dupri rejected his apology on RAW. His new presentation has accompanied that character shift.

Whether the clapping routine catches on remains to be seen, but if thousands of fans join in at SummerSlam, WWE’s creative gamble could receive a gold-medal reaction. For now, the company appears committed to the new direction. They hope Gable’s hometown connection becomes more than just a passing pop.
