Izzi Dame’s recent run in WWE NXT has caught the attention of at least one Hall of Famer, and not for the reasons many fans might expect. Following another high-profile defeat, Bully Ray has questioned why the former champion hasn’t received a bigger push on the brand.
The comments come after Dame fell short in a Women’s North American Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match on the July 7 episode of NXT, adding another setback to what began as a promising year.
Bully Ray questions WWE’s direction for Izzi Dame
Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Bully Ray admitted Dame’s recent booking has him stumped.
“I’m a little concerned with Izzi Dame. I don’t know why Izzi Dame is not being featured more. She was being featured for a while, but they’ve kind of had her in the Speed division. She didn’t win tonight. I wonder what’s going on with Izzi.”
Despite his concerns, the WWE Hall of Famer made it clear he’s still a believer in Dame’s potential.
“Uncle Bully has been keeping an eye on Izzi, and he likes what he sees. It factor, airport test, work, statuesque, whole nine.”
Dame appeared poised for a breakout year after capturing the NXT Women’s North American Championship at New Year’s Evil.
However, her momentum slowed after losing her feud with former tag team partner Tatum Paxley. She later came up short in an NXT Women’s Championship match against Lola Vice, failed to capture Wren Sinclair’s Women’s Speed Championship, and most recently lost the No. 1 contender’s bout.
Bully suggested WWE could simply be delaying a larger push, but believes Dame has already earned a bigger role.
“I thought Izzi would have been someone they hit the gas on a little bit more. Maybe they’re cooling her off because they plan on doing it. But I think the girl has earned more of the meat of the push.”
Bully also highlighted Karmen Petrovic as another NXT talent deserving more opportunities, saying she’d benefit from being more than “a backup singer.”
Whether WWE is pumping the brakes or simply playing the long game remains to be seen,. Nevertheless, Dame’s booking has clearly become a talking point. For now, fans will be watching to see if NXT eventually turns the corner on her push.
