Sheamus is reportedly not a free agent just yet.
Earlier this month, Fightful Select reported that the former WWE Champion had rejected a new, restructured contract offer from WWE. He was set to leave the company because of this. At the time, the report noted that Sheamus’ decision was not presented as an ultimatum by WWE, unlike some other recent contract negotiations.
Previous reports also indicated that a high-ranking WWE official pushed internally for WWE to retain Sheamus and fought to keep him with the company. However, after reportedly refusing a restructured deal that included a pay cut, Sheamus became the latest long-tenured WWE star expected to depart, following Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.
The Celtic Warrior appeared to acknowledge his impending exit by posting an emotional message on X. There, he thanked fans for their support throughout his WWE career. Many viewed the post as confirmation that his WWE run was coming to an end. Now, Fightful Select has clarified that his departure has not yet become official.
Sheamus is still under WWE contract for a few more months
According to the latest report, Sheamus remains under WWE contract and is expected to become a free agent on October 1. Exact circumstances surrounding the timeline were not confirmed. However, Fightful noted that it would align with a standard 90-day termination period after he officially rejected the restructured contract offer.
Sheamus has not publicly commented on the updated report or his future plans.
If the reported timeline holds, the former WWE Champion will officially hit free agency this October. This would make him one of the most notable names potentially available on the wrestling market heading into the final months of 2026.
