Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the introduction of the WWE 24/7 Championship was created by USA Network executives in an attempt to boost ratings.
It is being reported that USA sent multiple ideas to WWE but WWE creative saw them as ‘terrible’ ideas. This was the best one that USA came up with and Vince wanted to follow through on at least one of them to make USA executives happy. USA has been frustrated at the lackluster ratings during the third hour of RAW each week. Ratings have been getting historically worse and the April 29 edition of RAW had the worst third hour drop ever for a non-holiday episode.
Changing the branding design and colors in the arena is just another example of making changes to the show in an effort to get the viewing audience to stick around for another hour.
