Booker T Says Roman Reigns Is Back For ‘Checks and Championships’, Doesn’t See Him As A Heel

There was plenty for pro wrestling pundits to talk about after the action-packed weekend both WWE & AEW had and Booker T made a note about one of the biggest news items in the return of Roman Reigns.

On a recent episode of The Hall of Fame, Booker spoke with co-host Brad Gilmore about Reigns wreaking havoc on Bray Wyatt & Braun Strowman to close out SummerSlam. Gilmore acknowledges that a good bit of folks wonder if this is a heel turn for Reigns, but Booker doesn’t believe that to be the case.

“I didn’t look at that as Roman being a bad guy, I looked at that as being ‘Big Dog is back home. The Big Dog is reclaiming his yard and I’m not here to make friends or anything like that. I’m here for two things: the two “C’s” – checks and championships.'”

Gilmore states that Braun Strowman had an okay run as WWE Universal Champion, but Booker shoots straight about it, stating that Braun’s run wasn’t very eye-opening due to outside factors.

“Not really, I mean he hadn’t had a really okay run. He hadn’t really done anything, you know what I mean? All he did was have the title. He held the title but he really didn’t get a chance to do anything with it due to the situation that we’re in right now, it’s hard to move around.”

“I don’t know,” Booker continues. “That thing’s going to have play out for me because I think the whole deal was more so about the story than it was about the title between Braun Strowman and The Fiend Bray Wyatt. I could be wrong, I could be wrong. The title just happened to be a part of it and the title didn’t conflict with Braun Strowman losing because of, it was about the story. That’s what I see. Was the title in a better place with Braun Strowman? Who’s gonna wrestle him, who’s gonna beat him? The same thing with Bray Wyatt? Who’s gonna wrestle him, who’s gonna beat him? Roman Reigns.”

“I’m always looking at it from a promoter’s standpoint only. Never looking at it from the fan’s perspective and if they like something or anything like that. It’s always about for me, if it’s good for business.”
