Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Survivor Series Fallout, IMPACT Announces First-Ever Women’s Ultimate X

Women’s wrestling graced us with two pay-per-views this past week: Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair clash at Survivor Series, Bianca Belair outlasts everyone to become the sole survivor, new champions are crowned on RAW, the Knockouts show up and show out at IMPACT Turning Point, and much more! Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

Survivor Series Fallout, New Champions Crowned On RAW

Survivor Series kicked off over the weekend with a highly anticipated Champion vs Champion match.

RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch took on Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair in the opening bout. The two decorated champions headed into this matchup with a long history of friendship turned bitter rivalry. The tension was evident in the early portion of the match, which quickly turned into a fight as the two exchanged heavy blows.

Flair delivered a powerful spear and later slammed Lynch into the barricade. Lynch eventually regained momentum with a suplex into the turnbuckle and a devastating Man-handle slam. Flair was able to evade a pinfall by reaching onto the ropes to stop the count. Both competitors traded fierce words in the center of the ring before Lynch attempted Flair’s signature Figure-Four leg lock, followed by Flair reversing the pressure onto “Big Time Becks.”

Similarly, Flair later locked in Lynch’s signature Disarm-her submission, but Lynch escaped. The final moments of the match saw Charlotte Flair attempt to roll up Lynch with extra leverage from the ropes, but was stopped when the referee caught her. Lynch almost immediately reversed her momentum to then pin Flair with the same extra leverage move. Only this time, the referee didn’t see. Therefore, Becky Lynch earned the three count over a stunned Charlotte Flair.

Later in the evening, the women’s traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match delivered a fair share of team chaos and a feel-good comeback story.

Team Smackdown took on Team RAW in the battle for brand supremacy. On the RAW side of the match, Carmella, Zelina Vega, Liv Morgan, Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair seemed to work pretty well together, especially after experiencing an early 5-4 deficit. Toni Storm on Team Smackdown shocked Carmella with an early rollup after “The Most Beautiful Woman in All of WWE” tried to get her protective mask on.

From there, Team Smackdown consisting of Toni Storm, Natalya, Shotzi, Shayna Baszler, and Sasha Banks, seized control. Storm followed up with a huge elimination on Queen Zelina after about twelve minutes of back and forth action between teams.

Shortly after, Smackdown suffered their first elimination in Toni Storm, as she was taken out by Liv Morgan. Sasha Banks regained control for Smackdown, eliminating Liv Morgan. However, Banks’ teammates eventually turned on her, refusing to tag themselves in and forcing Banks to fight for herself.

Baszler then eliminated Rhea Ripley, leaving Bianca Belair as the lone remaining member of Team Raw, with a four on one disadvantage. Banks and Belair would briefly rekindle their WrestleMania match to a huge ovation from the crowd, before Banks was launched to the outside of the ring.

As Banks tried to crawl back into the ring, her own teammates held her back, and forced a countout elimination. Now, it was three versus one.

From there, Bianca Belair faced an uphill battle with much grace and agility. She quickly eliminated Natalya, then made quick work against Shayna Baszler before reaching a one-on-one point with herself and Shotzi. Shotzi and Belair duked it out, but Belair emerged victorious after delivering a powerful KOD.

Despite the four-on-one odds, “The EST of WWE” claimed the title of sole survivor and win for Team RAW at Survivor Series.

All in all, Monday Night RAW took the win over Smackdown with a 5-2 record at this year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view from the Barclays Center.

The action continued the next evening on RAW where three new champions were crowned.

Firstly, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. were set to defend their tag team titles against the team of “The Most Beautiful Woman in All of WWE” Carmella and Queen Zelina Vega. Heading into the match, Ripley and A.S.H. held the championships for a collective 64 days. Ripley, Carmella, and Vega also competed at Survivor Series the night prior, in the 5-on-5 traditional elimination match.

Prior to the match, Vega and Carmella revealed that Rhea Ripley would be their biggest threat in the matchup. Conversely, the duo declared Nikki A.S.H. a sidekick to Ripley. Vega previously defeated A.S.H. the week prior, which fueled their confidence even more heading into the championship matchup.

Zelina and Carmella worked to isolate “The Nightmare” Rhea Ripley, as Carmella delivered a superkick, knocking Ripley out on the outside. Eventually, Vega landed the Code Red on Nikki A.S.H. to secure the pin. Queen Zelina and Carmella now become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

This victory marked Zelina Vega’s first championship gold in WWE. Carmella now claimed her first tag team championship, after previously holding the Smackdown Women’s Championship and 24/7 Championship.

Later in the evening, Dana Brooke also captured her first championship in WWE.

Heading into RAW, Reggie held the 24/7 Championship, but was challenged for it by Cedric Alexander. Alexander managed to pin Reggie and become the new 24/7 Champion. However, that victory celebration was highly short-lived.

As a swarm of WWE superstars rushed to the ring after the match, Dana Brooke surprised Alexander from the top turnbuckle. Brooke landed a Blockbuster from behind on Alexander to gain the pinfall, and capture her first-ever championship in WWE.

Brooke now becomes the eighth woman to hold the 24/7 Championship in WWE, following the likes of Kelly Kelly, Carmella, and more. She later shared her sentiments and post-match reaction on Instagram.

IMPACT Turning Point

IMPACT Wrestling hosted their Turning Point event over the weekend from Las Vegas, with eight women competing on the card.

Firstly, the Digital Media Championship was on the line on the Countdown to Turning Point pre-show. Inaugural champion, Jordynne Grace defended against “The Hot Mess” Chelsea Green.

Green and Grace started off with many back and forth spots before Grace hit her opponent with a gorilla press slam. Green managed to shift the momentum into her favor by landing a nasty stomp, but only for a near fall. Both competitors would trade near falls before Jordynne delivered the Grace Driver to finally secure the win and retain the Digital Media Championship.

Later on the main card, The Knockouts Tag Team Championships were also on the line. The IInspiration, Jessie McKay and Cassie Lee squared off against former champions, Havok and Rosemary of Decay.

The IInspiration made their highly anticipated IMPACT debut last month at Bound For Glory, where they captured The Knockouts World Tag Team Championships by defeating Decay. In then of this rematch, the determined champions landed a sunset flip powerbomb on Rosemary to move her to the outside before they shifted their attention to Havok. McKay would use the ropes for extra leverage to gain the rollup pin victory over Havok.

The Knockouts World Championship presented itself on the line as Mickie James faced off against the Knockouts Knockdown Tournament winner, Mercedes Martinez.

Prior to this meeting in IMPACT Wrestling, Martinez and James last faced off in August of 2010. Now, they met again over a decade later, in a true battle of legends. In the end, James would resiliently defeat Martinez and relish in celebration.

However, that celebration would be short-lived, as former Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo rushed to the ring. Purrazzo aggressively locked in the Venus De Milo to Mickie James before revealing her plans to invoke her championship rematch clause.

James defeated Purrazzo at Bound For Glory last month to be crowned the new champion, but these two respected competitors will now meet again at Hard To Kill on January 8th. Will Purrazzo regain the Knockouts Championship for the third time or will Mickie James continue her winning streak in IMPACT to retain?

In addition to three action-packed matches, the Knockouts division received a huge announcement during the Turning Point event.

Besides Mickie James versus Deonna Purrazzo scheduled for Hard to Kill, The Knockouts division will be on display in their first-ever Ultimate X Match. The winner of this Knockouts Ultimate X match will be named the number one contender, and receive a future Knockouts World Championship opportunity. At the time of this writing, no competitors have been officially announced for the Knockouts Ultimate X match.
