Report: WWE Releases William Regal During Wave Of Cuts

WWE made several major cuts on January 5, and William Regal was one of the most stunning releases.

Shortly after the news broke that the company let Brian James, or Road Dogg, go, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful and Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that the company cut Regal, a lead talent scout and WWE’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting. Regal had also served in a prominent on-screen role as the general manager of WWE NXT.

Regal had been with the company since 2000, when he returned after he had a brief run in WCW. After the end of his in-ring career, he transitioned to a behind-the-scenes role. He had been the on-screen general manager of NXT since 2014, but he hasn’t appeared on the show in the last few months.

Regal was one of the most respected members of WWE’s backstage team, and he had been viewed as one of the crucial players behind the scenes throughout the black-and-gold era of NXT.
