Paige VanZant On Her AEW Journey: ‘The More I Got Involved, The More I Loved It’

Former UFC fighter turned All Elite Wrestling star Paige VanZant officially signed with the wrestling company this week, and in a recent interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, she spoke about her past appearances at All Elite Wrestling events, noting that she did many for free. VanZant also explained that she “loved” being involved, and she realized that she wanted to become a wrestler for the company.

“The more I got involved, the more I loved it,” said VanZant. “I just realized I was meant to be a part of the show. I wanted to be one of the wrestlers for them and I knew I would be really good at it.”

VanZant also touched on her training, and noted how David Heath —also known as Gangrel — and the AEW team aren’t letting her be too wild just yet.

“My only frustration so far with my whole pro-wrestling journey,” VanZant said, “is I would show up and I said, ‘Hey, I want to jump off the ropes tonight. I want to slam someone through a table tonight — someone is getting slammed through a table.’ They’re like, uh, you should probably train first. My only concern is they don’t let me do the crazy stuff right away. I want to go in there and I want to do all the crazy stuff. I want to fully immerse myself in this world.”

Time will tell what VanZant’s future as a wrestler in AEW holds, but she’s already been in the spotlight with the company; most recently, she attacked Tay Conti on the March 9 episode of AEW Dynamite.
