Kevin Owens Calls Out Matthew McConaughey For WrestleMania 39: Come At Me, I’m Gonna F*ck You Up

Kevin Owens is just a few weeks removed from the most “stupendous” WrestleMania of all time, and his role at the event will be hard to top; he faced Stone Cold Steve Austin in the legend’s first match in 19 years.

The show as also noteworthy for the number of celebrities that were involved in high-profile spots; Johnny Knoxville battled Sami Zayn in a chaotic match, while Logan Paul teamed up with The Miz to face Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Moving forward, Owens has one big name he’d step into the ring with.

During an appearance on WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves, Owens discussed celebrity involvement in wrestling. He made it clear that when people from outside of wrestling enter it, he welcomes them as long as they work hard and treat the business right. The former WWE Universal Champion went on to name renowned actor Matthew McConaughey as someone he’d like to face in a match.

“I always welcome people from the outside coming in if they’re cool,” said Owens. “And some of them aren’t cool, and as far as I’m concerned, those guys can just go back where they came from. We don’t need them. But man like the Jackass crew was unbelievable. Man, Logan Paul, people can say a lot about him. He’s got this reputation, people have made their judgement in him and a lot of them are not gonna change their mind, and that’s fine. But I’ve seen this guy first-hand come in with a great attitude, wanting to do good stuff, and man, he works hard, and he gets it. Nobody can deny that.

“…I did interviews before WrestleMania and people were asking me if there’s a celebrity, if you could pick a celebrity to have a match with like Sami’s doing this weekend, who would it be? And I remember, so he’s my favorite actor, which just happens to be a coincidence, but a few years ago, Matthew McConaughey came to a show. And he was backstage, and I didn’t get to meet him because there was a line-up of people waiting to talk to him. So I didn’t get to see him. I would have loved to say, ‘Hi,’ or whatever. But then I remember not long after that, he talked about how he’d love to do something in WWE. And to me, I don’t know him at all, but to me, he seems like the kind of guy who would be coming in to do it right and have a blast. You know what I mean, people like that, like I said, I’m assuming that’s the mindset he’d have. People like that to me are welcome in our industry any time.”

After Owens described how he practically spoke his WrestleMania match with Austin into existence, he threw down the challenge for a clash with McConaughey at next year’s “Showcase of the Immortals.”

“If we’re speaking things into existence — WrestleMania 39, come at me McConaughey. I’m gonna f— you up.”
