Jim Ross Announces He Has Signed A New Contract With AEW

Jim Ross is staying with All Elite Wrestling.

The legendary broadcaster has been with AEW from the start as a member of the broadcast team for AEW Dynamite and AEW pay-per-views. He initially signed a three-year deal in 2019, and “JR” recently announced that he has put pen to paper on a new contract.

During the newest episode of his podcast, Grilling JR, Ross stated that he has signed a contract extension that with keep him with the company for about a year and a half.

“I don’t think I’ve made this announcement yet; I signed an extension with AEW not too long ago,” said Ross. “I appreciate Tony Khan’s confidence and his willingness to keep me on the team and contribute. We’re not going a long time, but I signed about a year and a half, something like that, to stay in the position I’m in. I’m really pleased that, at 70, I still have a future. At 70, I still love what I do. Anybody that says ‘you’re too old,’ fuck yourself.”

“JR” went on to say that he wants to reach 2024 in his work with AEW, as that would mark his 50th anniversary in the wrestling industry.

“I want to get to 2024,” said Ross. “That’s 50 years in the wrestling business. Not a long of guys can say they were basically in the same job in a fickle. crazy ass, unpredictable business like pro wrestling for 50 years. The good Lord is looking down and cutting me a break, if I get to 50, I’ll be the happiest guy in Norman, Oklahoma.” [H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription of these quotes.]

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that Ross’ new deal is for 18 months.
