Trent Beretta: Roppongi Vice’s AEW Run Has Been ‘Very Cool’, Rocky Romero Is The Best

Trent Beretta says he couldn’t have foreseen the way Roppongi Vice is getting featured on a major platform on AEW, but it’s been an “awesome” experience.

Beretta and Rocky Romero teamed up together in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling from 2015-2017 before they parted ways. Trent went on to focus on his tag team with Chuck Taylor, and they signed with All Elite Wrestling. But in 2021, Beretta and Romero reunited when the latter made his AEW debut. After Beretta missed several months, Roppongi Vice’s comeback tour kicked off when he returned and Romero joined the Best Friends stable.

They have continued to work as a team on AEW programming, and the duo will challenge for the ROH and IWGP tag titles in a three-way match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Beretta discussed Roppongi Vice’s run in AEW and noted that he thought they were done when they split up. Now that they’re back together, he stated that it’s been a “very cool” ride.

No, I didn’t [forsee it],” said Beretta. “I’m a terrible salesman, by the way, so you guys gotta help me push this Milwaukee show. But no, I honestly thought when we kinda split, I think it was 2017, Rocky sent me off to the heavyweight division in New Japan, I thought we’d be done. I thought maybe we’d do like a kinda indie reunion one day, but doing it in AEW has been awesome. It’s been very cool.”

Beretta also commended Romero’s abilities as a wrestler; he focused on the veteran’s ability to get a reaction from the crowd and make people like him.

“Rocky is so good and he’s so underrated,” said Beretta. “I hate saying underrated, actually, let me take that back. Rocky’s f—— a awesome. I feel like Rocky, he can go in front of any crowd and get a great reaction and have people love him by the end of the match. Roppongi Vice is still new to AEW, but I think people are gonna really learn who Rocky is and like him a lot. He’s so likable, he can do anything in the ring. He’s got crazy charisma. I don’t know. He’s great, he’s the best.”

Beretta, Romero and Orange Cassidy will team up to face Will Ospreay and Aussie Open in a Forbidden Door preview on the June 22 episode of AEW Dynamite. Ahead of the bout, Trent praised Ospreay and expressed his excitement for Cassidy’s return to the ring.

“Ospreay is unreal good,” said Beretta. “I mean he can do literally anything in the ring and makes it look effortless and perfect. So excited to wrestle him and very excited that Orange Cassidy, after he separated his shoulder, I wanna say like maybe three months ago, and this is his first match back so excited to see how he does, how he’s feeling. I’m pretty sure his shoulder’s 100%. So yeah it should be a good one.”

Romero and Beretta held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship four times, and they’ll aim to add another set of titles to their collective résumé at Forbidden Dor.
