Johnny Gargano appeared on the July 28 episode of IMPACT to sing the praises of Alex Shelley.
Before Johnny Gargano was Johnny Wrestling, Alex Shelley was among a group of independent wrestlers popularizing a style that would become the focus of professional wrestling for decades to come.
On tonight’s episode of IMPACT, Johnny Gargano made his impact debut by sending in a video where he sang the praises of one-half of the Motor City Machine Guns. Johnny made it clear that it’s because of guys like Shelley that the wrestlers of his generation were able to have a path to success.

Later, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that Johnny Gargano only sent in this video as a favor and he’s not actively in talks with the promotion at this time.
Gargano has not wrestled since NXT WarGames 2021. Currently, he is enjoying fatherhood but he will be a part of the Starrcast series of shows where he will be one of the featured wrestlers in a stage show talking about what is next for his career.
Gargano recently spoke about still being in high demand in the wrestling world despite his hiatus, noting that he’s happy to bring a little bit of uncertainty to the table when it comes to his next move.
“I had this guaranteed contract with WWE I could take for a lot of money, and I could come back and keep doing what I’m doing. I just knew with the baby on the way, I didn’t want to have anyone else to be in control of my time because I’m really only going to get one shot at this, me and Candice are only planning on having one kid. I want to be there and try to experience everything that I can with Quill for his first year before I do anything else because I think I would regret if I missed his first words or if I missed his first steps if I was out wrestling in a town somewhere. I’m very lucky that fans do want to see me and it is scary to step away because you think you are going to be forgotten so it is a nice reminder sometimes, every time I trend on Twitter or my name pops up that I haven’t been forgotten yet.”
