A familiar face from ECW’s past made an unexpected appearance during the live May 14 episode of TNA iMPACT, as Mustafa Saed entered the opening Battle Royal to determine a new number one contender for the TNA World Championship.
While his night was short-lived, the surprise appearance quickly turned heads among longtime wrestling fans.
The over-the-top-rope match kicked off the in-ring portion of the broadcast. Multiple competitors had entered the fray before Saed’s music hit.
The 62-year-old ECW veteran walked out as an unannounced entrant, bringing a little old-school chaos to the modern TNA scene — and proving there was still some Gangsta left in the tank.
Mustafa Saed returns to national wrestling TV after a long absence
Saed, best known as one-half of The Gangstas alongside the late New Jack, immediately became involved in the action by attacking Bear Bronson with a trash can.
However, the nostalgia pop didn’t last long. Order 4’s Agent Zero quickly dumped Saed over the top rope. This marked the ECW legend’s first elimination of the match.
The appearance still carried significance. According to the information surrounding the segment, Saed had not appeared on a major nationally televised wrestling program in roughly 25 years. Following ECW’s closure in the early 2000s, he stepped away from the national spotlight. He focused primarily on training younger wrestlers while occasionally competing on the independent scene.
In recent months, Saed reportedly began working smaller California independent promotions to shake off some ring rust before this TNA appearance. Even though his role on iMPACT was brief, it gave the live crowd a blast from the past while also helping establish Agent Zero and Order 4 as dangerous players in the company.
The match eventually came down to Eric Young and Elijah on the apron. Young secured the win after delivering a low blow that knocked Elijah to the floor, earning himself a future shot at Mike Santana and the TNA World Championship.
For one night at least, TNA opened the forbidden nostalgia door — and Mustafa Saed walked right through it.
