Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Damage CTRL Seizes Tag Titles, Masha Slamovich Picks Her Poison, Sasha Banks & Naomi

Damage CTRL seizes the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Masha Slamovich will pick her poison. Sasha Banks and Naomi walk in New York Fashion Week and more! Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Crowned

Damage CTRL continues their reign of dominance in WWE.

This week on Monday Night RAW, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY emerged as the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. This week’s show saw (now former) champions Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah defended their titles in a rematch of their bout from a few weeks ago. The two teams first met in the finals of the WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament, where Rodriguez and Aliyah picked up a questionable victory.

In the previous contest, Aliyah pinned Dakota Kai. However, Kai was not the legal competitor in the match at the time. WWE still ruled Aliyah and Rodriguez as the champions though. Last night, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY finally received their proper title match. Accompanied by Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY pulled out the victory after Kai landed the Kai-ropractor on Aliyah for the pinfall. Therefore, Damage CTRL now reigns as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

This victory marks the first main roster title of both Kai and SKY. Both team members have held the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships with different partners prior to their official call-up at SummerSlam.

Read below for a recap on the closing moments of the match, courtesy of our live coverage page:

Rodriguez suplexes Kai. Aliyah and Rodriguez double team Kai. Rodriguez sends Sky and Kai out of the ring. Aliyah tags in. Rodriguez press slams Aliyah over the top rope onto Kai and Sky. After the break, Aliyah lands a flurry of offense. Kai trips Aliyah, which allows Sky to take over. Sky and Lai take turns working over Aliyah. Aliyah manages to tag in Rodriguez. Rodriguez clears the ring. Slingshot elbow by Rodriguez. Rodriguez tags in Aliyah

Rodriguez slams Aliyah onto Sky. Sky tries a ranna on Rodriguez. Rodriguez almost turns it into a powerbomb. Sky and Rodriguez tumble over the top rope. Aliyah rolls up Kai. Kai kicks out. Slingshot x-factor by Aliyah. Bayley puts Kai’s leg on the bottom rope. Rodriguez goes after Bayley. Sky takes out Rodriguez with a moonsault to the outside. Kai hits the Kairopractor on Aliyah for the win.

Pick Your Poison Match Set For IMPACT Victory Road

Jordynne Grace will meet her poison on September 23rd.

Jordynne Grace will defend her Knockouts Championship against Slamovich next month at Bound For Glory. Before that though, she must meet Slamovich’s opponent of choice at Victory Road.

Madusa Set To Release Autobiography In 2023

WWE Hall of Famer Madusa has a powerful life story, in and outside of professional wrestling.

Accordingly, she will soon publish an autobiography in the spring of 2023. The book will discuss life from her childhood, her transition into professional wrestling, and the unforgettable moments that followed. The Woman Who Would Be King: The MADUSA Story was co-written by Madusa (real name Debrah Miceli) and producer of SlamWrestling.net, Greg Oliver. WWE Executive Paul Heyman contributed the foreword of the book.

ECW Press released the following description of the book:

Through four decades of entertaining, in the wrestling ring and on the monster truck circuit, Debrah “Madusa” Miceli never could sit still. But her desire to learn, grow, and inspire legions of followers masked deep secrets … Her upbringing was a lie from the start, and the dark truths of her childhood, revealed here for the first time, are the earliest examples of Debrah’s determination to persevere.

Professional wrestling may have been an odd choice for a nursing student, but Madusa went all-in, toughening up in Japan before conquering WWE as Alundra Blayze. She held the WWE Women’s belt … until being fired. In the rival WCW, Madusa infamously tossed the WWE belt in the garbage on live TV.

Then, in 1999, Madusa changed lanes and revolutionized the monster truck world. At meet-and-greets, girls in pink “Queen of Carnage” t-shirts would wait alongside ogling fanboys. By 2004, she was the world champion in a sport dominated by men.

Only one thing has eluded her: motherhood.

This is the spellbinding story of how one woman survived child abuse, financial disaster, death-defying injuries, heartbreak, and chaos to emerge triumphant.
