Scotty 2 Hotty (Scott Garland) is enjoying the current chapter of his career, following his departure from WWE.
Scoty signed with WWE as a coach in 2016, and he worked there until November 23, 2021, when he asked for his release. He subsequently returned to the independent scene and competed all over the world.
During an appearance on the Wrestling With Johners Podcast, Scotty discussed his current run and emphasized that it has been surreal. He made it clear that he enjoys traveling, and he wants to make the most out of this chapter of his career. The veteran noted that he might only have a few years left, though he cited Billy Gunn’s longevity as an example of the way wrestlers can remain active into their 50s.
“Parts of it have been really surreal and emotional at times,” Scotty said. “It’s been so cool. I have absolutely no regrets. I’m having a blast and getting out there, just trying to travel as much as I can, and enjoy it while it lasts. I think I’m a realist with it all. I just turned 49 in July, so I realize like dude, like ten years, five years most likely. Ten years, I’m definitely done.
“I’ll do signings and all that stuff forever, but as far as being able to go in the ring at the level that I wanna be able to go, maybe five years at the most. I think we’ve seen the human body kind of change over the last, I mean look at a guy like Billy Gunn, who’s older than I am, and he’s a machine. If you take care of yourself and train, you can do this for a while. You just have to be smart about it.”
Scotty also described how he’s enjoying working with some of the talent he coached in WWE, and he recalled how he has met up with Eric Young and Big Damo.
“That’s one of the cool things about this run too is I’m getting to work with some of those guys that I coached,” Scotty said. “I think it was the first tour over in the UK, I did a show in Glasgow in on Saturday night, and then on Sunday morning, I had breakfast with Damo at the airport in Glasgow. Then I flew to Ireland and met up with Eric Young for OTT, not even 24 hours later. Like you said, I saw Axel on that show, too, so love those guys, all the Sanity guys. Love ‘em all, and Nikki too.
“That’s a cool part about this run is I’m getting to work with some of these people and wrestle some of these people that I coached. I have a show coming up in November. They haven’t announced it yet, or who it is yet, but it’s somebody that I coached at the Performance Center that I considered like one of my guys, so it’ll be cool. It’s fun to be able to do that because when I was coaching, I had no idea that I’d be going back out and getting in the ring and have the opportunity to actually perform and wrestle with these guys.”
