Kofi Kingston Isn’t ‘Mr. Royal Rumble’ Because He Hasn’t Won It Yet

Kofi Kingston can’t embrace being called “Mr. Royal Rumble” because it’s a match that he still has not won.

During a recent interview with Steve Fall for NBC Sports Boston, Kofi Kingston was asked if he would embrace the title of “Mr. Royal Rumble”, similar to how Shawn Michaels is Mr. WrestleMania.

Kofi has had plenty of impressive moments in the Royal Rumble over the years, including avoiding elimination from the match by using unorthodox approaches. Despite how many memories and highlights he’s provided over the years, Kofi said he couldn’t agree with that for one key reason — he needs to win a Rumble first.

“No, because I haven’t won yet. People say that, people say that I have a good moment but to me, the best moment would be to actually win or actually make the final four. I hold myself to a real high standard, I don’t want to — how could I claim to be Mr. Royal Rumble [and I never won it], you know what I’m saying? I can’t embrace it,” Kingston explained.

“I know I’ve had a lot of great moments and I’m appreciative of all of that, but the goal is to win. If I could trade in all of those moments for one Royal Rumble win? Uhhhh… I probably would. I probably would, you know? Because like I said, a chance at a WWE title is so few and far between and rare. Obviously for me, it’s really rare because I’ve had one shot but I’m batting 1000% Your boy hit the ball out of the park, I did it when I had the opportunity,” Kofi stated. “But yeah, in order to take that moniker like that, you gotta have at least one win under the belt. If I were to win one, then I would definitely embrace it because then you’ve done it all. You did what you’re supposed to do in the Royal Rumble.”
