Matt Hardy praises Jeff Jarrett‘s mind for the wrestling industry and his business acumen.
Jarrett has been in the business for over three decades, and he has worked for WWE, WCW, Lucha Libre AAA, and many other companies. He was also one of the founders of TNA (IMPACT Wrestling). In 2022, the WWE Hall of Famer has had a career resurgence, as he competed for GCW and appeared on WWE programming before he signed with All Elite Wrestling. He then wrestled his first match for AEW at the Full Gear pay-per-view, where he and Jay Lethal faced Sting and Darby Allin.
On the newest episode of his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy and co-host Jon Alba discussed the way Jarrett has a mind for the business and always thinks about how to monetize something. When asked asked how that approach can help you succeed, Matt noted that it was necessary; as a businessmen, wrestlers must do what’s best for themselves, particularly from a financial perspective. Hardy went on to state that Jarrett is “elite” at treating professional wrestling as a business.
“You have to have that mentality,” Hardy said. “Wrestling, as Scott Hall, rest in peace, as he would say all the time, this isn’t show friends. This is show business. So you have to remember, first and foremost, this is a business. You need to go where you’re gonna be able to make the most money [and] you’re gonna have the best opportunities to grow yourself. That really is what you have to think about, like how are we gonna monetize this?
“Wrestling is entertainment, and it’s all great and good is you’re having fun and you’re doing something you love and you have amazing creative input into whatever. But if it’s not monetizing itself, then it’s kind of defeating the purpose. That’s why this is a business, and you have to treat it as such. Jeff Jarrett is one of the guys who is elite when it comes to that. He is elite at treating pro wrestling as a business and figuring out how to monetize whatever he’s doing.”
Hardy will face Jarrett in a rematch of their clash at WrestleCade 2015 at the WrestleCade SuperShow on November 26.
