ESPN confirmed later in the evening that Lee would be heading to the WWE NXT brand at some point in January.
Dave Meltzer discussed more information regarding the Dragon Lee signing on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer stated that the deal had been completed several weeks ago but had to keep it quiet until last night’s AAA event as that was part of the agreement.
Despite belief to the contrary, All Elite Wrestling owner Tony Khan was aware of the signing ahead of time.
Meltzer believes AAA head Dorian Roldan is looking for some kind of future partnership with WWE based on his reaction on social media last night to the announcement.
Lee is reportedly making “NXT money” with his WWE contract, which isn’t comparable to the main roster money he would be making on RAW or SmackDown.
