Grayson Waller: I Should Be Compared To John Cena And Batista, I Know How Good I Am

Grayson Waller believes he’s worthy of being compared to John Cena.

Waller has been one of NXT’s top stars since the 2.0 era began in September 2021. His confidence has been apparent from the start, and just days ahead of his high-profile match against Bron Breakker on NXT New Year’s Evil, Waller didn’t shy away from being in the same conversation as other major stars.

Speaking with Steve Fall on The Ten Count, Waller being compared to Cena, The Rock, and Batista came up in the conversation. When asked whether that was a source of stress for him, Waller made it clear that he believes he should be compared to them, as he is confident in his skill level. He noted that other wrestlers “freak out” when they get compared to legends, but he knows he believes in himself. Waller also noted that he throws away all fan mail because he doesn’t need fans to tell him he’s good.

“I should be compared to those guys. It’s not a stress at all,” Waller said. “I know for some people, I see some people here freaking out that they’re getting put in these positions and they’re getting compared to people, and they don’t know what to do. I already know I’m there. I’ve known that for a long time, and I’m finally getting to show that. As for the fans, I’m not here to have fans. I don’t care about people. I’m not here to make friends. People sending me fan mail, they don’t care about me, lad. They just want me to sign a card, they want to sell it off.

“These fans don’t actually care about you. They’re fair weather, lad. I see this NXT crowd. Every two weeks, they change who they like. I don’t buy into it. I think too many people here are distracted by the fans. They’re distracted by what people say on social media. I couldn’t care less. I know how good I am. I don’t need some fourteen-year-old kid to send me a letter saying, ‘Grayson Waller, you’re so good.’ I know I’m good, lad. I don’t need to read this piece of paper. That goes straight in the trash. I don’t even read that stuff anymore. It means absolutely nothing to me.”

Waller previously earned a shot at the NXT Championship by winning the Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline.
