Kamille and Thom Latimer Want To Grow NWA Fanbase With More Live Events, Note Knoxville’s Simpsons Connection

NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille and Thom Latimer are looking forward to the first-ever live episode of NWA Powerrr.

On January 31, the National Wrestling Alliance will hold the live show from the Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Since its premiere in 2019, NWA Powerrr has been a taped show that has utilized a studio setting. This format proved to be especially useful coming out of the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the company could tape shows in bulk to lessen the frequency of events. Now, the NWA is ready to go to the next level, as the company will hold a live episode of Powerrr to kick off what promises to be an exciting 2023 for the company.

In an interview with WrestleZone, Kamille and Latimer shared their thoughts on the upcoming live show. The NWA World Women’s Champion expressed her excitement and described how doing more live events could help the NWA grow. She noted that, with the amount of wrestling that’s available today, it’s hard to check out everything. However, she pointed out that some fans might go to a show that’s in town, so live events could give the NWA a chance to grow its fanbase

“I’m personally very excited because I think the more live events we do, the more chance we have to really grow the NWA and grow our fanbase,” Kamille said. “I say that because there’s so much wrestling on TV, on YouTube, all of that, people might not have the chance to check out everything. But a lot of people, if they see that there’s local wrestling in their town and they have nothing to do that night, they might go check it out, and then they all of a sudden have a new favorite wrestler or a new favorite tag team. So I think that doing live events is a really exciting thing for the NWA.

Latimer chimed in by joking that he likes the Knoxville Convention Center because it was in an episode of The Simpsons, as he said, “I like the Knoxville Convention center, too, because one of my favorite episodes of The Simpsons is ‘Bart Gets A Driver’s License’, and that’s where they drive to [laughs].”

When asked about the challenges of live television, as opposed to performing at batches of tapings, both Kamille and Latimer noted that they’re largely the same, as there are no retakes in wrestling.

“I say it’s really the same as always because even though we do tapings, we never get to re-take anything [laughs],” Kamille said.

“You always have to hit your time, so nothing really changes” Latimer said. “Obviously maybe there’s a little bit more added pressure in the back of your mind, but it’s always there no matter what. In wrestling, you don’t get a chance to redo it or retake it if you botch something or need something up, that’s that. So that level of stress and anxiety is there no matter what.

On the other hand, Latimer described how live shows can be beneficial, as spoilers are often a result of block tapings. He noted that having results get spoiled can “dull the product” a bit, whereas live shows encourage fans to watch so they can see what happens.

“It being a surprise. When you do block tapings and things like that, it’s easy for information to get out or for it to have less impact,” Latimer said. “I think the more live things we can do, the more organic they are, and you have to watch it sort of see what’s going to happen. So there’s that level. I don’t know how much it really plays into it, but I presume that would be a big thing. You want it to be fresh and new, and spoilers and everything else like that, they sort of dull the product a little bit.”

Kamille and Latimer will face Psycho Love (Angelina Love & Fodder) on the January 31 episode of NWA Powerr, which will air on the NWA’s YouTube channel. Matt Cardona and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tyrus will sign the contract for their upcoming title match at the show. WrestleZone will have coverage of NWA Powerrr as it airs on January 31.
