Damian Priest: Dominik Mysterio Is His Own Star Now

Damian Priest praises the growth of Dominik Mysterio.

At one point, not that long ago, Dominik Mysterio was simply emulating the moves of his father, Rey Mysterio. Dominik eventually would turn heel and join Judgment Day. Still, even when he turned heel, he was still trying to find his footing and that character of his own.

Eventually, Dom would be “arrested” on Christmas 2022, and Prison Dom was born. Once he found his character, Dom began connecting with WWE audiences everywhere, and his growth carried him to a match with his father at WWE WrestleMania.

Speaking with Ryan Satin on Out of Character, Damian Priest reflected on having a bird’s eye view of Dominik’s growth and just how proud of what he’s accomplished.

“He went from being a star with Rey [Mysterio], a star in the Judgment Day, to being his own star. It’s Dominik Mysterio now. He’s his own thing. Just like with Rhea, it’s awesome to be a part of it and right there. I’m seeing this firsthand. I’m watching him from this distance, just watching him glow and do his thing. When he’s in the ring and holding the mic and the crowd’s going nuts, I can’t help but smile in the background,” said Priest. “I used to try to hold in smiles and facial reactions because I felt like my character had to be a certain way, but not anymore. Now, stuff that makes me laugh, I’m just gonna laugh because it’s funny, you know? And I’ll tell you what, Rhea, Finn, and Dom do that a lot. We’re always laughing and always cracking up, and usually at somebody else’s expense. We have a good time.

Continuing, Priest praised Dominik’s growth as a character and his demeanor.

“His timing, his pacing, his demeanor, like those are the main things [Dom’s improved.] His wrestling ability, you know, that’s fine. He knows how to do moves. He’s good in the ring, that’s not an issue, but it’s his demeanor. Now, the way he carries himself, he went from being basically a good hand to being a Superstar,” said Priest. “I can see him going and getting in the ring with anybody, and you get it like, ‘Okay, he’s in the ring with that person because he’s Dominik Mysterio, he deserves to be in the ring, not. He’s there because of his dad or because of the Judgement Day.’ That’s the main thing is the way he carries himself, and [that] has nothing to do with anybody else other than himself. He did that on his own.

“Of course, it’s easier when you’re surrounding yourself with people who carried themselves a certain way,” he added. “Finn Balor, for instance, you could learn a lot just by watching them and not saying anything. Just watch him. Watch him walk. Watch him look into the camera. You know, watch right before he speaks, how his demeanor is in, and I think that’s something that Dom has picked up a lot as well. Now when he goes out there, he looks comfortable. He owns the ring when he’s in it. So it’s a blessing to watch.”

Dominik lost his first singles match to his father at WrestleMania 39. However, he got to share a WrestleMania moment with not only his father but his mother and his sister as well as they were all involved.

Now, stemming from that match, the Judgment Day has developed an issue with global music Superstar Bad Bunny.
