AEW Rampage Results (4/14/23): IWGP Tag Team Title Match

All Elite Wrestling delivered an action-packed episode of AEW Rampage on April 14.

Tonight, the Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) will face off against IWGP Tag Team Champions Aussie Open (Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher), after challenging them to a title match on the April 12 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Speaking of tag team champions, FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) will address the fans on Friday. FTR defeated The Gunns in a Titles vs. AEW Careers to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the April 5 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Elsewhere on the show, Emi Sakura will take on Taya Valkyrie, and the quartet of Mark Briscoe, Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, and Satnam Singh will be in action.

The results are as follows:

Match 1: Aussie Open (c) defeats Best Friends via pinfall

In an opening IWGP Tag Team Championship match, the Aussie Open retained their titles with a big statement win. Late in the match, the Best Friends hit the Doomsday knee strike on Kyle Fletcher, but Mark Davis hit a piledriver on Trent to stop things from going further. With Chuck now alone, Aussie Open hit their group finisher on him for the pin and win.

The newly re-signed group came down to the ring and Cash Wheeler immediately thanked fans. He says it took them two years and five months for them to regain the AEW World Tag Team Championships, and that the group had now re-signed with AEW for four years. After those four years, Wheeler said, the group is done with wrestling.

However, in the meantime, they plan on becoming the best tag team of all time in those four years, and that this is their “last ride,” before Dax thanked fans for sticking with them on their redemption story.

Match 2: Jay Lethal, Mark Briscoe, Satnam Singh, and Jeff Jarrett defeat Spanish Announce Project and Jake Manning via pinfall

This one ended almost immediately, with Satnam Singh dominating Serpentico and chokeslamming Jake Manning for the pin and win.

Match 3: Taya Valkyrie defeats Emi Sakura via pinfall

In another short match, Valkyrie walked out with the win despite Jade Cargill coming out onto the ramp to distract her. Despite some early hits by Sakura, Valkyrie ended things with a spear before hitting the Road to Valhalla for the pin and win.

After the match, Leila Grey tried to attack Valkyrie, but was also met with the Road to Valhalla as well. Cargill entered the ring and the two began trading blows, but Grey hit Valkyrie from behind before she could hit Cargill with the Road to Valhalla. Cargill then hit the Jaded on Valkyrie and pinned her in mockery before leaving.

Promo: Dralistico

During the episode, Dralistico challenged El Hijo Del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship next week on AEW Rampage.

In-ring segment: Daddy Magic, Cool Hand Ang, Jake Hager

In the ring, the trio began a rap performance mocking The Acclaimed, before ending things by saying that rapping is easy. This caused Max Caster and Anthony Bowens to come out to the ring, where they pretended to start up a rap before charging into the ring and brawling. The segment ended with a challenge for a trios match next week on AEW Dynamite.

Match 4: Jack “Jungle Boy” Perry defeats Shawn Spears via pinfall

In a somewhat quick match to end the night, both superstars gave it their all in an attempt to win. Towards the end of the match, Spears tried to hit his C4 finisher on Jungle Boy, but Perry quickly rolled them up for a quick two count. Spears then hit a massive back breaker on Jungle Boy, but as he looked ready to finish the match again, Perry once again rolled up Spears for another quick pin and win.
