Colby Corino Clarifies His WWE Status, Why He Hasn’t Been Signed Yet

Despite reports stating otherwise earlier this year, Colby Corino has not signed a contract with WWE at this time.

Colby Corino was a recent guest on Wrestling Friends with Matt Koon to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his current wrestling status since he hasn’t competed since February, Corino said right now he’s just chilling and dedicating time to his family.

“I guess I really didn’t retire. I’m not officially on hiatus. I guess I am just chilling,” Colby Corino admitted. “I’m doing a lot of training at the Carolina Wrestling Academy, teaching some classes down there, and just really enjoying some time with my family which I think I’ve really neglected in the past couple years.

“I’ve been so into getting my goals done in wrestling that like, I haven’t really had been able to be a normal person. And I’m taking some time to give my family that time. Like right before we did this podcast, me and my wife went on a date which is very unusual for us. Earlier today, we celebrated my son’s fourth birthday, we took them to the trampoline park, opened presents, did cake, and all that.”

Bodyslam.net initially reported Corino had signed with the company, but later clarified that both sides had only agreed to a contract. When asked about the reports that he had signed a contract earlier this year, Corino was told there was an issue with his background check.

“I’m not sure I’d be able to do this interview if I was,” Colby Corino joked. “I got the offer from WWE and everything was agreed to verbally. They said before we send you the contract, we got to do this background check. All good, I have already been background checked by them before when I did my first tryout a few years ago. Nothing new should be a surprise.

“I didn’t do anything wrong in the past couple years. I got nothing to hide no more. I’m sure everything that’s on there they already know. So after I get my offer, I start getting ready to move my family down to Florida. Sign a lease at my dad’s apartment complex and got a place right in there with him. My wife was so excited to move, it was a nice community that had like two inground pools, a little workout center in there.

“We were both so excited because it felt like the dream come true that felt like everything was finally paying off. Like all these times that we drove 12 hours one way and then did a three-hour show and then turned around and went to the next town. Did a three-hour show and turned around and went to another show 12 hours way again and then finally came home. It made all those weekends over and over again, it made them feel worth it.

“And then after we do all that when we get the offer and all that few weeks ago and after I give them the paperwork for the background check. And again, I’m starting to get a little anxious because it’s been three, four weeks, and no word. It started to come up on the date that it’s time for us to move down to Florida. We’re supposed to move down to Florida on a Sunday. And on that Monday before I get a call and I get told that there’s a problem with my background check and then there’s something from like seven years ago, and that I need to handle that. And then after that, I’m good to go. And so now I’m good to go and it seems as though that’s not the case anymore.”

When asked if he’s been given any clarification by WWE since then, Corino said he doesn’t have all the information he would want but knows it’s not a closed door but there isn’t a deal for him right now.

“I mean, I don’t have all the information that I would want about the situation but it’s just I guess I know that for right now It’s not a closed door, but it’s kind of it’s not right now thing,” Colby Corino said.
