Roman Reigns Reaches 1,000 Days As WWE Universal Champion

Roman Reigns has reached a major milestone.

With the clock officially striking midnight, May 27, 2023, marks the 1,000th day of Roman Reigns’ run as WWE Universal Champion. Reigns began his reign at WWE’s Payback premium live event on August 30, 2020. In a Triple Threat Match, he defeated “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman to win the WWE Universal Championship.

Since then, Reigns has gone on a legendary run, establishing The Bloodline and taking down any and all contenders who have come for the gold, including the likes of John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes, and more. Reigns has been the reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion since WrestleMania 38; there, he defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship and unify the world titles.

“The Tribal Chief” is still looking up at some impressive reigns; Bruno Sammartino held the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship for 2,803 days. However, Sammartino’s second reign (1,237 days) is within reach. Likewise, Reigns is within striking distance of Pedro Morales’ lengthy 1,027-day reign.

At WWE Night of Champions, Reigns and Solo Sikoa will challenge Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.

Reigns will celebrate reaching 1,000 days as the champion on the June 2 episode of WWE SmackDown. More information is available here.
