Will Ospreay Wants A Match With Naomichi Marufuji For 25th Anniversary Show

Will Ospreay says the ball is now in Pro Wrestling NOAH’s court.

Will Ospreay picked up an impressive victory against Kenny Omega at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday night. During his post-show media scrum appearance, Ospreay said that while they were handing out accolades for best in the world, he wanted to take time to issue his own challenge.

“I want to throw this out there while the conversation is on ‘best in the world’ — I have taken so much from a man that I completely respect and admire. I hold him to the highest regard, and in September, he is celebrating his 25th anniversary of being a pro wrestler and I’ve got to say it now. He was my idol growing up; I would love to be in the ring with Naomichi Marufuji if that was possible. The ball is in NOAH’s court. I think we can work something out.”

Pro Wrestling NOAH is hosting Naomichi Marufuji’s 25th Anniversary event at Korakuen Hall in Japan on September 17.

If he gets his wish, this would be the first-ever meeting between Ospreay and Marufuji as competitors, or the second time they’ve teamed up. The two previously shared the ring in one match, a six-man tag team bout in New Japan Pro-Wrestling on October 15, 2016. That match saw Ospreay, Marufuji and Toru Yano defeat Juice Robinson, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tomoaki Honma.
