Carmelo Hayes is still HIM.
During the June 26 broadcast of WWE Raw, NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes was in the crowd. As such, Melo received a shout-out from WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, who praised Carmelo for his help after Finn Balor assaulted him on the June 20 episode of WWE NXT. When Balor attacked Rollins again, Hayes stepped in. As a result, Hayes subsequently faced Balor in a match in which the veteran picked up the win over the incumbent NXT Champion.
Hayes spoke with Byron Saxton on his WWE Raw debut in a WWE Raw digital exclusive. He noted that he couldn’t take anything away from Balor and referred to him as one of the finest in the world. However, Hayes says the focus is on his NXT Title Match vs. Baron Corbin.
“I mean, shoot, I can’t take away from Finn Balor, Judgment Day. Finn is one of the best in the world. If I’ve got to take a loss from one of the best in the world, I can accept that. But listen, the important thing is tomorrow night against Baron Corbin for the NXT Championship. I’m not 100%, but I believe I can beat Baron at 75%, at 50%, at 25%. I know he’s going to put up a great fight, but I’m ready, man. I might have taken a loss, but I look in the mirror, and I’m still Carmelo Hayes, so that’s a W,” Hayes said.
