Rhea Ripley: Not Being On WWE SummerSlam Is ‘A Little Bit Heartbreaking’

WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley comments on getting left off WWE SummerSlam.

In recent weeks, Ripley has started feuding with Raquel Rodriguez, and it seemed like the two stars could clash at SummerSlam. Instead, on the go-home episode of WWE RAW, Adam Pearce stated that Rodriguez would get the match when she was cleared to compete. As a result, Ripley does not have a match at WWE SummerSlam.

In an interview with ComicBook ahead of the premium live event, Ripley stated that she appreciated the fans’ support. She noted that was true of the entire women’s division. “The Eradicator” described how WWE stars work hard to get opportunities on major shows. She called not being on it “a little bit heartbreaking.” The champion also stated that the division will keep fighting for more chances in the spotlight.

“I appreciate it, I do,” Rhea Ripley said. “All us women appreciate it. Because at the end of the day, we work all year round for opportunities like this. SummerSlam, it’s a massive, massive show for the WWE. It’s our second biggest (premium live event) of the year.

“So to not be on it, it’s a little bit heartbreaking, but at the end of the day I know that we’re all still going to be fighting for the next spot and the next PLE will come up. There’s PLEs all the time now. So we will get our shot as well. But yeah, SummerSlam, it’s cool to say that you’re on it, and I appreciate everyone for backing us girls up.” (Transcription credit of ComicBook).

WWE also pulled the anticipated match between Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus from WWE SummerSlam. More information is available here.

WrestleZone will have coverage of WWE SummerSlam as it airs on August 5.
