Sheamus: Top Guys Were ‘Pissed Off’ They Had To Follow Me And Daniel Bryan

Sheamus reflects on his past feud with Daniel Bryan, now known as Bryan Danielson.

Bryan and Sheamus were two of the top stars on WWE SmackDown in 2011, and they faced off on many occasions. Sheamus memorably beat Bryan in 18 seconds at WrestleMania 28.

Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Sheamus looked back on his physical matches with Daniel Bryan.

“…Me and Daniel Bryan, we were killing each other,” Sheamus said. “I remember one time we had a live event just before ‘Mania in Atlanta, this is before we found out we got bumped to that pre show at WrestleMania 27.

“I remember going for the Brogue, and just half of my foot went through – my left foot went through the middle and top and it spun me upside down, I ended up like a hangman with my leg, I was over on the apron. He just got this kendo stick and he beat the s**t out of my leg! No joke, he beat the crap out of it. It was mental! My ankle was, like, bleeding this size. But we didn’t complain.”

Sheamus: Daniel Bryan And I Upset Other WWE Stars

Sheamus noted that he hit Danielson just as hard, and they were both just “trying to break the glass ceiling.” He then recalled how people were telling them to “calm down.” The former WWE Champion described how some top guys were “pissed off” because they had to follow Bryan and Sheamus.

“People were telling us, “Oh you need to relax, you need to calm down!” Why? Why would we calm down? To make you feel better? To make you feel better about your match? Because you have to follow us, right? So I’m having this crazy physical match with D-Bry – me and him, just the chemistry we had and the different styles, the technical high-flyer against the big brawler.

“So you had guys going out afterwards – I’m not gonna tell you who they were, but top guys – and they’re p***ed off with us because they had to follow that. They’re going out doing this tippy-tappy s***e and we’re in there kicking the crap out of each other, marks all over us.”

Years later, Sheamus and Danielson both remained renowned for their in-ring work, and they continue to deliver hard-hitting action.

Sheamus will face Edge on the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown. More information is available here.
